Yep it is and the wind really makes it tough with that cloth like vinyl. The bondo is the easy part. Just follow the directions and mix it good. It dries quick but can be sanded and if you dont get enough you can put a second coat. Unfortunately I have been working too much to fish but may get to take her out Saturday if I work real hard tomorrow.

Thanks Brian, it does help---and it sounds like it was a pain in the keister to coat both sides and have to get it down right.  I"ve never used bondo, but of course am game to try it out.  I know that vinyl is a little thin so surface prep is important.  Hope you are enjoying your renovation and are catching all the fish!

Jenn,  I think Bondo would be plenty porous to bond with the glue. Even if it doesn"t bond you are only talking about small areas which for the most part will be in the middle where they wouldn"t matter. I had to do both sides (vinyl/deck) because the adhesive they sold me for fiberglass/aluminum surfaces was a contact cement. This means you have to coat each surface, let it "cure" or dry a little, then the bond occurs when they "contact". With this type cement you cannot adjust or move anything once the two surfaces touch so you have to have everything right to begin with. The glue your using is probably a standard glue that you would apply with a notch trowel and you should have a little more leeway. If you are uncertain about the bondo you could use a wood filler product instead or a floor float compound. I used the floor stone/float compound under my regular vinyl floor inside my cabin with no issues. It bonded well to the fiberglass composite board as well as the regular vinyl glue for wet locations. I only used the mari-deck glue because thats what they recommended for it and it is a different backing (the mari deck vinyl) than household vinyl. Hope this helps.

Brian, I know you explained this in gory detail to me...lol.  I have the MariDeck MD-101 Adhesive (for wood) as I am going to put down vinyl.  If I use Bondo to seal the seams, screws, and fill in a odd spot here and there, do you think this adhesive will be ok for that?  I guess that I am imaging that this glue works on porous substrates (like wood) and I am not sure that the Bondo is porous, so I"m wondering about the adhesion.

Also---you mentioned that you had to glue both the felt back side of the vinyl as well as the deck.  Could you explain why you had to do that?  Again, I am wondering if I am going to have to do that as well.

Thanks in advance for rehashing this....

Thanks for the heads up. We will be diving off it alot so then we will be in dive shoes & fins and it should be wet with us getting in and out. My long term wish list includes a hose down station which I could use to cool things off if needed. Going to the lake this weekend for the first camping trip.My foam mattresses are supposed to be here Thursday which is the day I am leaving. Hope to get them before I go. Hopefully I will be posting some relaxing pics like yours as well as some fishing forum pics.

500,000 candle power. I am not sure how I like the suction cup mount. Went out there after a big rain today and unhooked it to try and rotate it. The plexiglass was wet and I could not get it to suck down. Will dry tomorrow and try.

LOL it was late last night when I was typing that. The light has a cigarette lighter type plug and the control part is hardwired to the light. Guess I could do that....sort of like cutting crown mold...upside down and backwards!

Hey Capitan. Somehow I let your post get by me. The spotlight shines good but for some reason when I push up it goes down/vice versa. I can flip the controller over and up/down is correct but left/right is off then. I tried re-mounting it. I wonder if I may have the polarity wrong on my plug or if I have it on backwards. Anyway other than that it seems to work fine.

You only use the space bar if the pics are small and you wanted it side by side, however your pics are bigger, so you want to hit the right cursor to get to the end of the pic and hit return to give the pic space, then you can type or like you did above, add another pic. Just remember to hit return after entering any text.

OK Charles I am going to try the space bar this time. I couldn"t find the info. on posting on the help page or as a sticky so glad you sent it to me. This pic is the most important part of the boat...the head. Here is the back we re-carpeted.

These next pictures are of the interior. I still need to get a blank for the helm gauges and then install a water gauge. I decided to mount the radio in the casing that came with it instead of in the console as it would be in the way driving if someone wanted to put in a CD, etc. I mounted it overhead and it also came with a remote control so I don"t have to stand up to change anything. The table is removeable so a cot or whatever can go there. I bought the folding chairs and folding table along the wall so I could do away with them if we needed to for flexibility. I plan on getting foam for the bunks this week.

OK I can"t seem to post text once I post a picture so I will have to make multiple posts until I learn how. Here is a close up of the tank rack/live well. Note in the picture the guy that gave me the seats had speakers in them. I put Lexan over the holes with NP1 sealer and now have the only livewell/aquarium in my neck of the woods. It was funny watching the fish come up to the window yesterday

As promised here are the final rebuild pics. I plan to post one with the beds after I get the foam cusions installed and maybe a couple more but the boat is pretty much finished by my standards. There are a few items left but they won"t prohibit me from enjoying my lake time. I am going to try to post these pictures but I have a problem figuring out how to use the text in with the pictures. If this doesnt work I may make 3 or 4 posts. Here is the first one. This is the front seating with a rack for 8 dive tanks. The old seats were given to me by a friend who prefers an open front deck. They are plastic and even though I don"t have red in my color scheme I thought it would fit with the "Dive Shack" name and logo I am working on. We plan to build a plywood back that will fit over the rack when we are not diving although the compartments came i handy fishing for putting cricket cages, etc. in them.

Finished all the major items on my punch list and went to the lake this afternoon and did some cruising & fishing. Forgot to bring the camera so will take the inside pics tomorrow and try to post them. The GPS says were were doing 19MPH at WOT (5800 RPM). I did not get to trim up the motor to try and make 20 as the new motor instructions says not to run it wide open for over 10 seconds or so until break in. Think we are going to enjoy this boat and we sure turned alot of heads both on the trailer and in the water. I still have alot of things to do but most of these are convience items and not necessities. Can"t wait to spend the first night on board!

The fence paneling is simply the old paneling repainted. I used bondo and fiberglass to repair the dents in it. I spent over 400 at Bass Pro today on stereo, spotlights, rod holders, speakers, etc, etc etc and have now purchased almost everything I need. Hopefully I can get everything finalized this week and Sat. am. I will put more pics up then. Right now the cab is full of tools and all the stuff I have to finish. Did get the GPS sensor on this pm and the transducer cable run.

Well I made a "punch list" this weekend of what I need to do before we christen the boat. It was 2 columns on a 11in. long pad. Going to Bass Pro tomorrow and buy some more stuff. Seems like lately its 100 bucks a day habit for this boat. I got off with $70 today at Academy buying the livewell pump, accessories and some more LED lights. I sent one of my guys to a friends shop to use his wire welder and build us a tank rack/dive/fishing bench. My friend had pulled the furniture from his boat because he likes to fish out of folding chairs and likes an open deck. He let me have two plastic base 3ft long benches. Roman modified these by taking the factory backs off and keeping the bases. He then built an 8 tank plywood rack/back for the bottoms. I made one side a livewell by putting fittings in it and a drain. There were speakers in the seats which I removed and put Lexan in the hole so I can watch the fish in the livewell. Turned out pretty good and if I get the painting on the tank rack done tomorrow I will post pics soon. Also got my table put inside as well as 2 folding chairs and a folding table I got at Sams. The porta-potty came in this week as well as an anchor. Also got the stainless eyes to strap the generator down on top along with a support base for the generator. I am so ready to get done and get on the water. I debated today wether to take it out on the lake or work on it and wound up working.

Ok so that implies a 3rd person who went along, so I suspect that"s your master wood guy behind you, or that could be your youngest son standing at the rear door. Love the looks of the interior, spacious, good windows for views (thought it be more restrictive).

Oh man that looks really good, but had no idea your cabin would be so big, no fishing chairs on front either, but looks like it could be a shrimp trawl if the nets were out . Looks mighty fine.

Woke up Saturday feelin better after being under the weather the latter part of the week. Talked one of my men who is also a diver into coming over Friday and putting the ceiling in the boat in return for some toon time. He is a master carpenter so it took a little longer and he came back Sat. am. As he worked on the ceiling I started putting in lights behind him and working on some of the electrical details. He started hinting around about taking it to the lake this afternoon which had already crossed my mind so it didn"t take much persuasion to go do a "float test" as we called it. He asked me "what do we need to do to get it where we can take it to the lake?". I spouted off a few things like finish the ceiling, transom saver, numbers on the bow, etc. Lo and behold at 3:30PM we were hooking up a semi-finished party hut and headed to the lake. We did not call it the maiden voayage as we did not have a quart of Natural Light to break over the bow. On the way to the lake 3 or the 4 Dexter grease thru dust covers came off and my son did not tie the gate good so one of them blew off but my wife picked it up (without a scratch!). I bought new hinges and latches from PS but didn"t get them on as it wasn"t on the "necessary" list.  The boat pulled like a dream with my Duramax engine/Allison transmission and once we hit the water all in the world was good! The new Merc fired right up and before we knew it we had put the first hour of break in time on the motor. Found a few little items we need to work on but nothing major. Couple of gauges not working but I think I know where the problem is and there was some water coming thru the underskin of filter cloth right where the third toon starts only at a certain speed. I plan on putting a piece of sheet metal or something there. Also need to remove the screen off the drivers window. More of a nuisance than I thought. Thing handled like a dream and we made some fairly sharp turns at 3 or 4K RPM without a problem. Heres the pics. I plan to post more of the inside and outside once I am really thru. The A/C should be here Monday and I still have some more miscellaneous things to do.

Leaving Home
