Has anyone ever seen a pontoon boat with 4 logs under it? I have a 20' and a 24' boat that are both run down and in need of some TLC, new deck and carpet and such. I will be combining the two into one tri toon but I was wondering if there is such thing as a quad toon.  I am ordering a redeck kit with vinyl flooring today and will be tearing down the 24' boat to prep for the new flooring. I intend on building a boat specifically for fishing (primarily striper). I have read about adding a third pontoon which I will be doing to help with the weight of people, fishing gear and a 50 gallon bait tank full of water on the boat. It has a 90 horsepower Mercury on it that will have no problem pushing it with 3 toons under it and the extra toon will bolt right into place.

I have only seen one and he had the logs on the outsides of his existing ones. Kinda like outriggers.

It's been discussed here before, and if I recall, the final vote was there would be way too much turbulence and spray for the motor to run cleanly behind it.

*SHRUG*

I've got 5 on mine (Quint-Toon?)

Lots of drag for sure, but a bunch of flotation too....

Sorry Scott. Forgot that you installed 2 extra mini toons at the stern of your boat. Assumed we're talking about 4 full size toons in this case.

NP Rick....  I was just making noise anyway!  Wink

But, the restaurant across from us on the lake just added a "tour boat" to their collection.  It is probably 10' wide and about 35' long.  It's got a full 4 logs under it (no center tube).  Strangely, the "inner" logs are full size, while the outer two logs are probably only 17" or so in diameter.  Unloaded they are barely in the water.

I imagine the intent is for the outer two logs to provide port-to-starboard stabilization/rigidity while keeping the drag to a minimum.

As an engineer, I'm not sure I agree with the mindset.

Well, if you only have an 8ft wide deck, I would not do it...
Here are my reasons (i.e.  "MY" opinion )
MY reason 1:  Access to mounting bolts is probably only available from the top while the decking is off.
IF you were to need to replace a log or do weld repairs, you may need to completely
disassemble the 'toon to fix it.

MY reason 2:  Without underskinning the deck, the water spray will probably be so great it will drag
down the rear of the boat while under power.

The idea to simply add the third log is good and you can access the mounting bolts from under the boat if necessary.
Tom

Adding a third log to make your 'toon a tri-toon is a no-brainer...

This boat was in the channel in Lake Havasu City on Labor Day weekend, 2016. It's bitchen. Don't know if it's custom or if a boat manufacturer is now making it. But the boat looked brand new.
