OK, I've done some searching, but it is proving to be somewhat difficult to find some starting points for a prop for my Tritoon. Most people have a starting point prop and they can get baselines and select from there. Since I'm building the boat up and bought a motor (propless), I don't have that baseline. So far, I'm looking at the 14P or 15P enertia.
I'm interesting in what people with a 150hp tritoon are using. Mine is a 22' with the sport tube and separate transom. I know I may be able to do some testing from the Marina in spring, but I'm still curious on what props may be good candidates. Also, I've heard the largest diameter you can get is where to start and adjust pitch accordingly? I saw someone (don't remmeber the username) has the 15D x 15P enertia on the 150hp tritoon. Thanks all. |

I'm no expert for sure, but I agree with getting the largest
that will fit and go from there. And I can tell you after helping the owner of
the sport/tri I built last winter tweak his set up, you will need to have the
motor mounted high. We eneded up with his 135 Evinrude as far up on the transom
as we can get it. Still have yet to test it in that position (and with a little
less pitch), but I believe it's going to be perfect height wise. |

What was the result of the motor being too low??

Lost performance. Low RPMs. Lot's of spray, because of so much drag. If you have power trim and you can't trim it up and see a difference, or get the prop to blow out you're way to low. We raised 3 notches mid-season and he picked up 3MPH, even with dirty logs from wet slipping all year. You can't dial in your prop until you get your height correct!

Hey, saw your post on the weekend and I might have a starting point for your prop problem. I bought in the fall last year (2013) a 22' SB 522 RS Southbay Pontoon with the same sport tune package. (THIRD 3/4 LENGTH TOON). I only had a chance to put 3 hours on it before it came out of the water and didn't have GPS. The prop that came with it was a ENERTIA 15.6DIA. X 13 PITCH RH. THE MOTOR ( ALSO A 2014 150 HP MERC 4ST)was mounted second hole up and maybe too low(NOTICED SPRAY OFF THE CAVITATION PLATE) ( I BELEIVE CAVITATION PLATE SHOULD BE AT THE SAME HEIGHT AS THE BOTTOM OF THE TRANSOM BRACKET).I was in break in mode but when I got a chance to let her go I hit about 5500-5600 RPM trimmed out with 3 people on board. I will move motor up one more hole (TO 3RD HOLE)(MIDDLE HOLE) before I get it back in the water in MAY. This should raise the rpm a bit and would like to try the next prop size up (15.6 x 14 or 15 pitch)

I am in Montreal on Deux Montagnes with the exact same pontoon (522rs with 150 merc with 13.5 enertia) and the same problem (excess water spray) Dealer said it is normal. I don't think so! Mine runs 34mph on GPS at 5400 rpm. I bought it on the premise it would do 38-40! Don't get me wrong I love the boat I just want it to be at it's best performance.
Did you have a solution to prop and motor placement. Thanks, look forward to responses

I just recently an Xcursion 23FCR with the 2.75 center "sport tube" powered by a Merc 150 4-stroke. With 2 people aboard and the top down, the maximum speed is only 31.9 mph. I mentioned this to the salesman and he said it should do at least 35. He said they put 15.6x15 in that line of boats. Well, I just looked and the prop is 15.6x13, the same as those mentioned in this thread. I was wondering, has anyone resolved their prop issue, what size was selected, and how did it affect performance?

The first question will always be: what are your WOT RPM's?

Oops. Forgot that. RPM top out at 5500. The motors max recommended is 5800.

Then I'd definitely try 2 more inches of pitch (it would be great if you could get a loaner prop). Find out if you are hitting a rev limiter, or if you are propped correctly.

Hi there, new to the forum and a new boat owner! I have a very similar set up as most of you on this thread with a Berkshire 23 RFX with the 2.75 package and a Merc 150. I am positive that I have a stainless Inertia prop, and I am pretty sure its a 14p. I'm not sure on what the diameter is until I get in front of it. I am tuning in closely because I feel I have some of the same issues going on. The dealer told me that this is the prop that they put on all of their tritoons as they found it to be the "best overall". The boat seems to run great and trim out well(although not much) with minimal weight aboard, however, with added load, it seems to struggle to maintain speed. I am able to get it up to cruise speed initially and get it trimmed up well but, as soon as I run into some chop or wind gusts, I lose it to cavitation and can't seem to recover without starting over! Obviously this boat is new to me, and its going to take some time to get to know it but, I want to make sure I'm set up properly. I have a lot of spray from the transom so, I am wondering now about the motor placement?! I am able to hit 34mph on GPS at WOT with a light load, I only hit 30mph last night with six adults and a cooler. I failed however to take note of the max RPM loaded down. The dealer took the boat out for its initial sea trial and said it's sitting right where it needs to be, at 5800rpm WOT, with a light load of course. I'm not trying to be the fastest on the water obviously but, I would like to be able to maintain a decent cruise speed while loaded with some people! Again, this is all new to me so, all this may just be normal for these boats. I assume that it is normal for these boats to not take much trim before cavitation correct? Thanks in advance to all!
