Hi, I just purchased a 20' Palm Beach pontoon boat this past summer.  The snap on cover is in bad shape with several holes and a torn seam.  It sounds like the snap on custom fitting covers are very expensive to replace.  I plan on installing several brackets on the top rails and support bows (thin slats) and then pull a general purpose tarp over (24' x 12' approximate size).  My question is, what would be the best material for this tarp?  Any material I should avoid?  I was originally thinking a nice heavy duty waterproof canvas tarp but I believe I read somewhere that canvas tarps are not great for boats (they start to smell bad after a while).  Do you all have any advice or experience you could share?

Thanks.

I build a " A " frame with material from here. https://formufit.com/  i used 1 1/2" fitting and bought the pipe local and then I bought a canvas waterproof tarp from ebay about $180.00 going on 3 years and no problems at all . My tarp only comes down on the sides to the middle of the fence and I have spacer under the fence so its able to breath.
