I have a 21ft. Sun Tracker Fishing barge that will blow out the prop at
5400 w.o.t. (In flat water). The 3 blade 12 1/2" X 9" blows out at the
same SPEED as a 4 blade (but the 4 blade only gave 4000 rpm's.
I've lowered the whole engine pod by one inch. I put on a SE SPORT 200
HYDROFOIL. The engine is a MERCURY 40 hp that needs to have about
3" of negative trim. The TOP of my prop is even with the bottom of the two
24" toons. I think the extreme angle of the motor pod at full speed is shoving
water and air right into the front of the PROPELLOR causing the blow out!
I made a aluminum plate to change the angle of water coming off the pod
to make the water move straight accross the motor, exiting straight out the
back about 4" above the anti-ventilation plate. If I can attach one picture I
will. If this works. Maybe I'll get a 8 ft. FLAT BOTTOM motor pod!
ANYBODY BEEN DOWN THIS ROAD WITH THIS STYLE MOTOR POD???
Any thoughts???THE LAST PICTURE IS A DIFFERENT BOAT, BUT JUST LIKE MINE!

i don't want to be the bearer of bad news, but i think the piece you put on will cause more problems of it's own. I can't tell if your pod has the small piece of aluminum on the bottom like whats in the last picture. If it does i would recommend taking off the add on and cut that piece of aluminum off and try it. that little piece has been know to cause similar problems on 90 hp and bigger motors, and sun tracker recommends removing it.

The prop only blows out at w.o.t when the water is being pushed down
at a steep 45 degree angle from the motor pod. With the top of the propellor
being flush with the bottom of the pontoons, I can't believe it should be any
lower. (It is at its lowest on the mounting holes from the factory.)
I will see if my ugly-make-shift-pod-plate will move the water horizontally
accross the anti-ventilation plate in a couple weeks when I get a chance.
If it don't work, I'll remove the upper sheet metal screws and remove it, and
move on. (The motor is a long-shaft, 20" for what it's worth.)
What's cheaper or better option?
1.adding extra long shaft extension...
2.changing to a pod that's at least 80" long and flat on the full length of the bottom!?

WOW!!! THAT MAKE SHIFT ADDITION MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!
I NOW HAVE NO BLOW OUT, I CAN MAKE HARD TURNS WITHOUT BLOWOUT....AND
I PICKED UP 3 MPH. IF YOU HAVE BLOWOUTS WITH THIS THPE OF MOTOR POD
ANGLE ON THE BOTTOM....LOOK AT CHANGE THE FLOW OVER THE CAVITATION PLATE
TO MORE HORIZONTAL. OVER AND OUT!
