hello everyone. very nice informative forum here.  we bought our first pontoon boat last may. paid 4500 for it . it is a 1994 sun tracker 24 ft party barge. it had a 115 johnson on it. the motor ran very well so i bought it. brought it home took it out it was perfect . so i decided to go ahead and replace the water impeller . long story semi short, lol , the shaft is seized in the power head . so we removed the ob.  i found a great deal i think on a new outboard to put on it but here is my problem. the transom is cracking . the aluminum has cracks through it. i never noticed this until i took the old ob off. also, i want to replace that pllywood it looks kinda soft to me where the motor bolts go through.  im going to take it to a local welder but i was wondering what the forum diy guys thougth before i go.  first, will this pontoon hold a 90 hp suzuki??  i had a 115 johnson on it when i bouht it but my thoughts were that maybe that 115 was too heavy for it causing the current cracks. secendly, , do you think that i can get the welder to maybe weld in some square box tube or something to BEEF  up the transom.  and thirdly,  how in heck do i replace that plywood,  i cant figure out how to get the wood out.  edit, i forgot to add with that crack like it is in the picture, it is the same on the left side as well and it lets the transom or stern wiggle left and right.

I have the same toon, with the same problem. Check out the link in my signature for replacing the wood. I still need to buy a new transom or 3rd toon with built in transom. For this year I am crossing my fingers. I may end up calling a local lake welder to come out and give me a quote to make it all aluminum. To remove the wood just take out the side bolts and with some grunt work it comes out the top. My capacity plate states 115 max. your 90 should be fine.

Thanks, I'll look. My boat doesn't have any info on the back at all. So I don't really know what rating to go by. I was wondering if I could buy a new transom if it would be cheaper than having it welded. I read somewhere that a company makes a toon/motor mount in one piece but not sure who or the price our if it would even fit my application. Am I right to assume I need a 20 inch shaft on this??

the one for 600 with the tank is a transom. I have my eye on one of those as well.

I've heard so different opinions on wood vs all aluminum due to electrolysis and vibrations. Any thoughts?
