Hello and thanks for the add!
I have a friend who is not PC savy and has a
2000 PlayCraft with a Mercury optimax 200 hp and the Alternator has gone bad. He is stating they want 800.00
for a replacement alternator?Thats seems crazy to me but it is a boat of course...
Wondering if anyone can tell me of a cheaper or possibly a replacement part for less?

Hmm...seems a bit high for an alternator, unless, of course, the mechanics have to don scuba gear and cut a hole in the bottom of the boat to access it. Otherwise, I've seen them advertised for $75 - $100.

Thanks Blaine I just decided to google it and yep about 100.00? Only reason I came to the forum to ask is because at 800.00  I assumed it was crazy rare part.

We replaced the alternator this weekend and thought the issue was fixed but 2 hrs on the water and the low volt alert rang out again. We did a volt test on the alt with the engine running and off and all numbers seem correct.
We are leaning to the bad fusible link but we are not sure how to test that and cannot find where it is located and it is not listed in the service manual??
