Bought this little 6" X 15" Godfrey toon about 2 years ago strictly to use in my pond.  It had twin electric motors on it and was literally a MESS when I got it.  The boat was solid for the most part but the bottom of the transom was rusted completely out, (it is galvanized).  After cleaning it up I kept it i my pond for over a year for me and the kids to fish out of.  My Dad has fallen in love with this little boat and began hinting around that we needed to find us a trailer and an outboard for this boat so he could use it to fish out of.  This began my quest, you see my Dad just turned 70 and I really wanted to fix this up for him.  Here are some pics of when I got it.

Here"s a pic after I cleaned it up right after getting it home.

Dad and I found an aluminum trailer for sale in Florida and headed down to get it.  It was a double axle and was built for hauling v-hull boats but the guy we bought it from ended up having the brackets at his shop so I could make it into a pontoon trailer.  I"ll have to post pics of it in a little while, can"t seem to find my cable for my camera!!!.  Here are some pics after I got the bunks on the trailer and got it out of the pond so I could start the rebuild. I removed the stripes and pulled the tray and transom off of the rear so I could rebuild those, acid washed and wet sanded the toons (yes I"m gonna polish them).

Here are some pics of the transom after my buddy got it welded up.  I just got finished sanding it tonight and cold galvanizing it.  Was too late to get some good pics but I"ll post some up of the finished product when I get some time.

Some of you may remember my first rebuild of My Stardust pontoon.  I have solid white powder coated railing on that one so I decided I would prime and paint these to match the big one.  Here"s the start, getting them primered up.

Did I mention that I started putting the Nuvite on the toons this evening too It is way too HOT in S. Georgia to be polishing toons.  I"ve read all of the other post about how much work was involved in polishing the toons but it is all that and more!!  It"ll look good when it"s finished.  Here"s the start.

The first pics after the cleanup was about a year ago.  I just started the teardown to get prepared for the outboard about 3 months ago.  My oldest son plays on a traveling baseball team so that has greatly affected my "boat building" time. I used rustoleum primer and it is working great, it does seem that it takes about 48 hours instead of 24 for the primer to finally get adhered where you can"t scratch it off. I am hoping to finish sanding this evening and get the rails painted, then i"ll get back to polishing those toons.

Thought I would post an update pic.  Still have a good bit of polishing left to do but I intend to try and finish it tonight and tomorrow. Need to add 1 more coat of paint on the railing and polish out the back battery and fuel can tray and get the transom put back on.  I went by the outboard shop and picked up the 25hp Johnson that I bought (2000 model) to go on it so I could paint it this weekend too.  Hope to have it reassembled by next weekend and possibly carry it to the water.  Gotta order some sharkhide too!!

Made some progress today, finished polishing the toons (thank goodness!!), put the transom back on and began sanding and painting the motor.  If all the stars alighn i"m gonna try and have it at  Buck"s Outboards tuesday morning for him to begin installing the motor and controls, who knows, I may even be able to get it wet by next weekend (might be wishful thinking)  I"ll try and post some pics later.

Here are a couple of more pics. The To-Do list for next week include putting lights on the trailer, carpet on the bunks, building the stops on the winch trailer to butt the toon up against, wiring the fish finder and I"m sure there"s more!!  By the way, if anyone knows where I can get a 6" wide bimini for this boat send me a link.  THX!!

OK, I"m excited, I got the outboard painted (for the most part), and got the trailer lights on the trailer.  I"m headed to Buck"s outboards early in the morning to let him get the motor installed, and the controls and everything put on.  My order of Sharkhide shoud be here by the time he is finished, then i"ll back the boat in the pond and get those bunks carpeted and my winch stand finished.  Here"s a couple of pics, Sorry for the quality but it was right at dark when I took them, i"ll try and get some better ones later.

Thought I"d give you a little update, finally got the boat back from the shop with the outboard installed.  I"m going to have to cut about an inch and a half off the top of the transom to get the motor down far enough not to cavitate.  Got the bunks on the trailer carpeted today and the winch stand moved.  Should be ready to go to the river with the little toon by the weekend.  Dad"s been combining Corn this week but he says that as soon as the corn is out of the field he"s going to try the little boat out.  Here"s a few pics of my son trying it out in the pond.  Will get some pics with Dad on it when we get it all finished.

By the way, Dad did take it for a spin around the pond today and he was all smiles!!

Too cool.  But when does it get the green paint to match that on the machine in the background?  Up here if you"re a John Deere man, its all gotta be green.

Very nice work.  You can be proud.

Nice shine and good move on the sharkhide Have you thought of putting fenders on the trailer to keep the rocks from denting those pretty tubes? Nice looking boat and definitely a unique one made for fishing!

I was on google last night looking for fenders, the trailer had fenders when I got it but they were all broke up and hanging off.  I found a lot of fenders but none for the tandem axle trailer with the 10" wheels.

You did a super job on the pontoon Phil. I know YOU & you Dad are very proud of it. Hope you BOTH get lots of enjoyment out of it & catch a LOT of fish. A very nice job well done.

Phil Charles" link should hook you up but if you have a local Tractor Supply they usually stock fenders. If not try looking in the yellow pages for a trailer parts supplier. We have a couple here in town that sell parts for big 18 wheeler trailers but also have fenders for smaller ones too. You would save the shipping that way and be able to look at them before buying to make sure they would work. You may have to weld or bolt some brackets or something to make them fit. I have added fenders to several trailers through the years.

Northern Tools is another good supplier of trailer fenders & other parts too. I bought a set for my utility trailer last year & they bolted on very easily.

Went on the Inaugural run today!!  The river is mighty low now but the little toon did great.  Of course we"ve already come up with a couple more things we"d like to do to it but isn"t that the way it always is!!  Couldn"t get many shots because Dad didn"t want to pose for the camera but I snuck a few anyway.  He"s already talking about places we need to carry it.  I hope he uses it a bunch.

One more small update, took the pedestal seats out in the front and installed my new Pontoonstuff.com bench seat in front of the center console.  Now the weight is balanced on the boat and we"ve got some storage for life jackets, anchors and such!!  This was Dad"s idea, now all we need is a Bimini top, too bad pontoonstuff doesn"t sell one 6" wide. Here"s a couple of pics, (yes it"s parked under Dad"s shelter now!!

That was a good idea on adding another bench seat. I probably would have went with the biggest bench seat PS has but that one appears to give you plenty of room to get by. More I look at it the better I like it for the smaller creeks and trailering would be a breeze. Couldn"t have many people, but rarely do I have more than 2 on my boat anyways. Course, I"d put storage bins and have my recliner fishing chair front and rear on that boat along with a trolling motor, but I"d be set for smaller lakes and creeks. good job!

That layout doesn"t really lend itself to the "party crowd" that like to socialize on a pontoon, but it really is a great layout for those that like to fish.  I like it!  Looks like plenty of room to move around, full access to all sides of the boat, and good use of the space. Setting up a better balance is a big "plus" as well.  Well done!!
