Our old 24' 1980 Crest III named "Chillaxin' "we had for 1 season last year was rustier than we thought...the right pontoon snapped off trying to cross a huge wake on September 20, 2014. Confused
Long story short, glad everyone's okay--and glad the wife didn't get scared of boats from the ordeal! She nearly drowned as the bow line became tangled around her left foot, and the sinking deck / hull was pulling her to the bottom. Tore my right rotator cuff yanking her free 20' underwater, but glad my wife is alive! Tongue
She said to me: "stop being cheap...no more old fixer-uppers, no more craigslist crud. I want a brand new boat, and the only things it better need are a coat of wax and the registration stickers!"

How can a man argue with that? Clap

So here's the new 'Toon.

Named "Chillaxin II", she's a 2014 22' Godfrey Sweetwater 2286. As the LAST 2014 boat on the lot, we STOLE IT for a flat $20K out the door without a trailer. Since we put 50% down, our payment is super low. LOL

Kudos to Harbor View Marine in Pensacola, Florida for the outstanding sales and customer service experience!

Yamaha F-70LA 4-stroke engine
21 Gallon Gas Tank
3 gates and aft swim ladder
Seating for 10 and a table
Aft Sun Deck Pad
Carpeted Floor (wish it was vinyl)
Sony marine head unit
Cooler storage under the fiberglass helm
Speedo, Tachometer, Hour meter, Battery, Gas and trim gauges
10' Bimini Top

We LOVE it! I've already upgraded the 2 factory speakers, and added 2 more up front. Replaced them with Fusion 6.5" 2-way coaxials with carbon fiber cones and titanium dome tweeters. They sound amazing! I also added the optional XM satellite radio tuner kit to the Sony radio. I'm adding a Faria Depth gauge this weekend; that matches the other OEM Faria gauges.

We plan to add a second battery with automatic charging relay, and a "Bimini Buddy" second removeable bimini top for the front of the boat. Since I'm a metal fabricator by trade, I'll be engineering my own pop-up changing room curtain since the boat was ordered without one. I'll also be adding a small 8" subwoofer enclosure underneath the helm too.

Thought I'd share the bad news and some good news! Embarrassed

Thanks for giving us the details of your near fatal event.  I will check the bolts on our new "very old" pontoon after reading your post.  That was a horrifying event that you described, how scary!  Its great that the wife was proactive regarding getting another boat, many would not after that accident.
We are new to pontooning and are testing the waters with an old boat first.  There is nothing quite like a new car or a new boat or a new tractor, or a new...

WOW that is scary!! I have an older one also and sometimes I just wish I would have made the investment into something nicer. I constantly check my welds because of the age and so far they look good. I always stop or try to avoid the big waves though as much as possible. Just glad no one was seriously hurt.

Nice boat!! I have to agree if the wife says get a newer boat well you just have to do it!!
