Thank you, thank you to all our fans

Don"t count me out yet.  I still need advise!  It is because of this forum that continued our perserverance and drive to finish the boat, among other things.  We would not have had the knowledge, the help, tips or ingenuity to go farther without all of you, your projects and input.

There is still the 10% that needs to be completed.

We are having a little engine trouble.  We can do about half throttle, about 3500 rpms and no issues, nice steady speed and rpms.  We give it more throttle and it speeds up and gains rpms but then starts surging at about 4000 rpms like it is losing fuel, a lot of throttle at one time and it stalls.  This last weekend Jeff had to squeeze the bulb to pump fuel back into the motor to get it started again.  Do you think carburetor?  Clogged fuel line?  Electrical issue?  What do you think? If we put the engine in neutral we can throttle it all the way up past 5000 rpms with no issue.

MotoXdog, I like that "keep the silver side down"!

Thanks for the input on the engine. We also have another issue which might be a part of this problem.  It seems when the fuel lines are left attached to the motor, fuel leaks in the motor.  We have to detach the fuel lines when we plan to be anchored for any length of time.  Jeff thinks the floats are sticking in the carbs.  The fuel is not leaking at the quick connect. It is actually leaking into the engine.  The engine hydrolocked on fuel last year overnight when we left the line attached and the cylinder filled with fuel.  Don"t you know that was a drag to rectify out on the river.

We currently do not have the shut off.  We have the switch but have not yet installed.  I appreciate your input a bunch.  Sounds like something we need to check into.  We have already had to replace hose clamps and other various plastic parts and seals as they were showing signs of wear and becoming brittle.  I think we need to find someone to check out our carbs.  McGiver Jeff is not ready to tackle this issue himself.  Altough Mrs McGiver Jeff is ready to get out the old manual and with the assistance of the BRP parts catalog and all your suggestions, research this issue and fix it!

Hello,

Going out to the river again tomorrow for the weekend.  Went to court today.  Received a judgement against the upholstery shop for the $800.00 they made us pay.  This was the best I thought we would get because it was a barter agreement.  She agreed to the barter, she got her cars repaired, we got the upholstery even though there are issues.  It may not be perfect but at least it is red, white and blue and better than what we had.  Whoot!!  The woman lied so much and since it was small claims court there was no opportunity to provide my documentation for rebuttal.  At least we feel we won!!   Not sure if we will git r money from the dead beat liars but at least there is a judgement against them.

Wanted to tell you all, we were cheered from the bars and restaurants we passed the last time we were on the river.  Next weel will be much calmer and maybe I can get so pics posted from 4th of July weekend.

Happy Boating!

Well, just wanted all you to know we have had a great time the last couple of weekends out on the water.  Tied a new spot on in the Delta area, went to Tower Park Marina & Resort.  There is a KOA campground there and a mobile home park area.  The customer service at the marina was great!

We haven"t had any problems with the motor since Jeff put fuel in it!!!

We actually do have an issue but it runs much better than that one day.  We do not have the fuel gauge hooked up yet (we only had a fuel gauge for one tank).  Jeff made a dip stick the first time we fueled.  He made a mark for every 5 gallons of fuel.  He decided to dip the tanks before we went out weekend before last and found both tanks had about 1/2 inch in the bottom.  NO WONDER he had to pump the bulb to get the motor running to get to the dock.

Ahhh come on, what"s the point of having a paddle in the boat if you don"t use it. Us rednecks are required to have paddles down here, because we thought the current was sufficient I guess to get from point a to b and back to a. Darn fuel guages

What is amazing is that we made it back to the dock with no problem.  Darn good thing he decided to check the tanks as we were heading back to the river the next weekend.  Now that would not have been good!  We had to make a detour to Sam"s Club to get fuel on the way.  Jeff was seriously trying to make that 5th trip to the water without fueling.  That same weekend we did the river on Friday night, Saturday and Saturday night.  Some of our friends were up at Folsom Lake on Sunday so we pulled the boat out of the river and put it back in the water at Folsom Lake for the day.  That was a busy weekend.  Our bathroom door handle broke, one of the few remaining original parts.  Had to go to Home Depot the other day and get a new one.  Jeff installed it yesterday.

Well that was not a very fun trip on the water in the beginning this weekend.  You know how I said we had the intermittent surging while using fuel from one tank?  Then I made fun of Jeff for not fueling? Well, we launched at the lake near us, bout 15 minutes from home.  Lake very low but still plenty of water.  My sister in laws B-day so made arrangements for lots of people to come out, camp and have a great time in the water.  Launched the boat, sitting in the water while waiting for Jeff to park the truck.  I normally start the motor and warm it up.  I waited a little bit and then tried to start it.  Started to turn over then acted like the battery was dead.  Jeff changed to the spare battery and same thing.  Would once in a while try to turn over but acted very strange.  Jeff has a 200 amp breaker on the battery and it was drawing so many amps to try to start it would trip the breaker.  He got down in there and turned the flywheel thinking it was hydrolocked again, but it wasn"t.  We tried and tried but it just would not turn over enough to start.  Jeff thought well may the plugs were fouled or it was loaded up as we did a lot of idling trying to recover the boat on the last outing on the river.  Anyway, it was dark and about 9:30 pm when we decided to drag the boat away from the dock and anchor her up to shore.  Had to push the boat out into the water a ways to throw out the rear anchor.  We have to have a rear anchor and a front anchor to keep the boat from swinging around and sitting parrell to the shore during the night.  Anyway, this took about half an hour before we got the rear anchor set.  We had already put the boat on the other side of the dock as to not block the ramp when we realized it was going to take some work.  Jeff got up about 6:30 am on Saturday and headed for home for some starting fluid and new spark plugs.  He got back, replaced the plugs and noticed there was water on the plugs, not fuel.  Oh no, this could be a a really bad thing.  He checked the one tank by pumping some fuel into a clear cup, no water in that tank.  Finally got the motor running with the aid of the starting fluid.  Finally it started running nicely as it usually does.  We started out into the lake to the place we had chosen for camping and, remember I said the lake was a little low?  We hit land in the middle of the lake, I was driving about 3000 rpm, tried to get the throttle down low enough and got it out of gear as quickly as possible.  Of course Jeff was yelling at me but I got it done as quickly as possible.  Good thing the motor has a nice long thing hanging down below the prop.  Didn"t hurt the prop but when he tilted the motor up to check, it wouldn"t go back down by using the trim switch at the helm or on the motor.  He pushed down on it a little and the switch started working at the motor but now it doesn"t work at the helm.   Will have to check for a blown fuse or something.  Anyway, tilted the moter just below the water and started out again, motor fired right up.  Oh I forgot, this was after the rear anchor got stuck when we tried to pull it up when we were still by the dock. Jeff had to measure the depth of the water and then dive down, little over 10 ft, and free the anchor.  We finally got to our camping spot and stayed there the entire weekend.  Actually had a great time.  Everyone left on Sunday and we did our normal clean up and get ready to get to the dock and recover.  Jeff decided it was definitely water on the spark plugs and decided to check that other tank for water.  Sure enough, we found a little water in the tank.  I squeezed the bulb and Jeff drained it into a clear cup.  Tilted the cup sidways a bit and there it was sitting in the bottom of the cup.  We ran the motor until warm and switched tanks from the good one to the spoiled one (after all water removed) and the thing purred like a kitten all the way back to the dock.  (We went around the other side of the island and DID NOT go back the way we had come in).  Not sure how the water got in the tank, either from the gas station or maybe it got in there somehow before we put the thing back together.  There was only tiny bit of water left in there maybe a tablespon.  What an ordeal!!!!

Definitely time for a water separator kit isn"t it. That ethanol that they put in gas is a water magnet.

No more getting fuel at Sam"s Club.  We have been trying to get fuel at places that do not display the Ethanol signs.  Sam"s does not display the warning on the pumps but that is were we fueled up the last time.  Jeff says Ethanol is very hard on the motor.
