Love them flags. The black one is an "Operation Iraqi Veteran" flag. Almost three years over there.

Well for me it was a shock not to see flags. I have pretty much grew up on the coastline and that is where all my vessel time has been. Now when I bought my first bass boat, 17 foot stratus with a 150 merc on the back, real sweet boat, post pics later, that is when I got into bass fishing here in Al/Ga area. Mainly Eufaula, and we didn't really look at other boats, and if we seen them, they were bass boats. But then I traded that for a deep sea aquasport with a 300hp Evinrude, gas hog, and was back into the big blue. Out there, every boat/vessel/ship, whatever, has flags. It is international regulation that if you enter into internation waters, three miles off the shoreline, you must fly the flag from which your boat is registered in. So since then, I have flown flags on my boats, which my third is this pontoon. When I hit the lake the first time at the sandbar, I was shocked to see I was the only pontoon with flags flying. I told the wife I was going to make a change, and we will see this coming weekend. I want to see how many flags are flying at our little sandbar hangout. Anyway, the flag story Big smile

correction, it was a 115 Johnson on the bass boat. Loved this thing. Bought when I got back from overseas and was retired out from the army, medically. I think I paid about 5 grand for it. No problems, ran about 55 mph on the water, great bass boat. Traded this for the ocean boat, which was my biggest mistake and was taken advandage of, or I was just young and dumb at the time. Anyway, here was our first boat. .

Nothing wrong with this boat, inside was good, motor ran great. Caught many of good size bass off of her, and some gators too in Eufaula.

Now here was my first mistake, 300 evinrude on the ocean boat, 25 footer, set up for deep sea fishing, and diving, but the wife didnt' care too much for it. We traded the bass boat even up for this and it was a big fuel sucker at 4.10 a gallon and a 100 gallon tank. had alot of issues with it, moved north and ran my dad's catermeran in the atlantic so I sold it for about 3 grand. it was a project boat to say the least. It was my dream to start my own fishing charter out of Destin Fl, but it wasn't happening on a beer budget and a project boat. Oh well....no regrets.

THis is when I was down at the guys house after doing the trade. I drove 8 hrs to Tampa Fl to get worked over. This guy I guess took me as a fool, and I fell for it. He told me he would take it 70 miles off shore right now without a doubt in his mind. I didn't do a watertest, although we hooked up the hose and fired it up, but when I dropped her in the drink the first time and went to see what that hoss of a motor could do, she fell on her face over and over. After a few hundred dollars, lots of sweat and tears and blood and drinks, I finally got the motor running, but not where I would even take her further off shore than I could swim. Long story short, he ran me for a fool, and I played the part great. he got an awesome bass boat, and I got a schmitty ocean rig. But my dream kept me blind as I dumped more and more money in here. After I sold her in pa, the guy ended up putting new fuel tank in, many pin holes, new fuel lines, new electrical all the way around, and a new 250 four stroke. He says he loves the boat now, I would too, should have just bought a newer one lol.

KY, thank you for your service, and I love the flag flying on your boat.  Oh, and don't feel too bad about getting fooled on your ocean boat.  We all get fooled occasionally when we're buying from others -- things are rarely as advertised, and we get "taken" sometimes.  But I look at it the same way I look at people panhandling by the interstates:  We need to do the right thing -- the shysters and people who are out to "get" others will answer one day for their misdeeds!!

Ocean boats are a class of their own. I own one and you can sink alot of money real fast. You can fix things top notch and the next trip something else is corroded or won't work right. I recommend anyone buying an offshore boat or even an inshore such as houseboat, etc hire a licensed marine surveyor. They can quickly find the faults and pluses of the vessel. They also provide an appraisal. I think we paid about $15/LF of boat for ours and the cost was well worth it. They found several items that the owner had to fix that I would have never found. No matter if you think you got a deal or got taken just remember BOAT= Break Out Another ThousandOuch

Thumbs UpTomorrow we are going out on both lakes here. Lake Oliver for a 1-2 hour family cruise, and then Lake Harding for the sandbar/after hangout. Should get some pretty good pics. This will be the last cruise in Ga/Al, then it is off to Florida to put her back in the crystal clear gulf. I should be starting my new job next week, if not on the 16th of June, so we will be moving to Florida soon and the boat build is put on hold. Hope everyone has a great weekend.Beer

Ok, well we got one day out this weekend. Went out sunday and had a great day. Unfortunately there is bad news. We got on the lake, I set up the covers, and went to hang the flags, and well, they were gone. Thought maybe I miss placed them, but after searching everywhere, even when we got home, they were nowhere to be found. So I drew the conclusion someone else wanted them more than I did. It's bad for someone to steal the American flag and my black flag, bad thing is, my black Operation Iraqi Veteran flag, well I can't find it online anywhere now. They have all these new ones out. So my pride and joy of flying the flags and honoring our fallen, I could not do. I still honor all our vets, past, present and future, but it would be nice to flag the flags. So they will be replaced soon. As soon as I can get over it. Next time this boat sees the water, it will be in Florida on Crab Island. (google it, it's really nice). Hope everyone had a great Memorial Day Weekend. Thumbs Up

THis is us heading out. The boy was hiding. lol

It would really tick me off if somebody decide to sell them on CL or Ebay to make a quick buck. Might look there but I'd file a police report just to have it on record if you can't locate them (or if you see them online).

Yeah, that plan is in action Charles, just want to make sure that they are completely gone. And now that I can't find the old online, I will definately be watching CL and Ebay and Amazon, cuz if it sells in the local area, it is game on. But here is a pic of our little sand bar on Lake Harding.

Since you brought it up, my wife has mentioned we needed flags on our toon, so guess I'll see what I can find in the way of USAF Vietnam and USA flags with a pole to mount.

Flags are very difficult to choose from. There are soooo many out there. I did find one exactly like my old one, but I have to phone the order in. I do not have a good website to refer you to, but I can tell you that I went to walmart and bought the plastic mounts and screwed them into my back bars so they angle the flag out to the sides. I will upgrade them to aluminum ones eventually. That is the best tip I can give for the flag deal.
Here is the wife and boy, and the in laws dog. I don't even have to get off the boat to enjoy a great day. Just watching them makes me happy.

And finally even the dog was tired and worn out. We all had a great day and slept very well that night. We are so excited about hitting the florida waters next month, especially for the Fourth of July in Destin. It is going to be great.

I saw your tat and it reminded me I almost got one in Vietnam. Had I done that, it would have blown my cover several times during my undercover forays LOL  USAF Security Police K9 (around a German Shepards gnarly bared teeth/head wanting to take a chunk outta somebody). Yep, I doubt they would have let me do assignments with that on my shoulder but I kinda wished I had got that tat after all. Wink
