Just got a 1974 Harris 240A Flote-Bote 24 foot in fair condition. Scissor trailer. No motor. DEck is fair, a bit of de-laminating, but not soft. Have a small, quiet, private lake. Thinking about an electric trolling motor. Seller inherited from his dad. I am very handy and mechanically orirented. I collect and restore vintage cars and have done home renovation.

I think it would be fun to restore this 'toon. Possibly replace the deck. But to begin with a trolling motor. Thinking maybe a 50 pound? Boat weighs about 1900lbs. What make motor or are some good used ones?

Also would like to steer from the steering wheel. What kind of motor would mount on the transom where the outboard motor was, and steer with the same mechanism. Looks simple to fabricate, but if I am gonna buy a motor, why not that could fit.

How can I learn about specs for our boat? Any info? Assuming all is well and brought up to original specs, what size outboard motor? Length of shaft?

Another idea might be use this for a floating island, anchored in the middle of our lake and get out there with a peddle boat. Is there a good kind of paint for the pontoons, might make them green or brown?

My wife and I are very excited about our boat and ready to do some 'tooning! I will ask some dumb questions, hope you will bear with me.
