We made the first trip in the Nauti Kat this year offshore. Found the mangrove snappers suprisingly dumb and shot our limit. Usually these things scatter at the first sound of a speargun but apparently these have not gotten smart yet. We also got 2 lion fish that are starting to invade our rigs

Thats Fred. He is about 6'6" and will be going with us. I am leaning back because I have more and bigger fish so I look shorter tooLOL. We probably won't dive that trip but may slip a couple tanks in the cabin in case you don't catch any and we have to get some meatWink

Yeah, you're gonna look kinda puny with me and him there on either side of you LOL, oh then you wouldn't be too bad if I stood next to you and him next to me LOL. One thing about sea fishing, I've never known anyone NOT to catch food out there, even if we had to hit the bays. Big smile

Yea the weather will be biggest concern. Although June is summer it typically has alot of rain and stormy weather down there. Snapper season is June 1 through 2nd week in July so it makes it hard to plan. I think we will manage to get a mess of fish one way or another barring a hurricane

That's awesome Brian, I've never eaten a mangrove but I've heard they are excellent. That spearfishing looks awesome, I've been wanting to dive since I was a lil kid. My mom almost signed me up for some scuba lessons a long time ago but it conflicted with my basketball schedule.

The mangroves taste about like red snapper if not better. As for the scuba lessons I didn't start until after I turned 40 so its never too late Wink

Took the boat out this weekend for an overnight tuna trip. We started way to early at 6 am and by 11 pm just when the tuna were starting to bite my crew played out. There were only 4 of us and two were over 60. We wound up with 10 black fin tuna, 2 lemon fish, some mangrove & vermillion snapper, a warsaw grouper and two scamps along with some assorted others. Amberjack season opens next weekend so I hope to have some good pictures and video then
This next one is of an 18# red snapper my wife shot on the last weekend of snapper season

And the last one is when I took my employees fishing. This was just after I took Charles aka WCD or PoliceK9 fishing.

oh I see Ling on the deck. I let all my fish and shrimp spoil in the freezer when I turned the temp down a tad trying to loosen up. Must have got the wrong bags to put water in, it ended up in the freezer. Now I gotta find somebody to haul freezer and all away. Freezer only less than 2 months old. Oh well, get another one and try again. May come to fish with you in the marshes in Oct.

Wife just told me about that. Hate it when that happens. We lost some of the fish we caught right before you got down there. We had them in a small freezer I bought in front of Keith's camper. It was plug to a GFI outlet and it tripped while we were gone. We are still using the freezer though. We refroze it to make cleaining it out tolerable. If you make it back down we now have an excuse to go fishing again!

Wow Brian, those are some nice fish! Have you ever speared any big ones that you had to cut the string to prevent being pulled away?  I would imagine you have to hit them in the right spot to slow them down.

We use cable instead of string as the coral on the oil rigs will cut string. I haven't yet had to let one go but I have come close. I wouldn't probably be able to cut the cable quickly enough if I were pulled too deep. I would just let go of my gun and lose it. Some of the guys use riding rigs where the gun is attached to them and they hold the shaft with a rope. If the situation becomes dangerous they just let go and lose the shaft only.
