Started my rebuild.  My father passed away earlier this year and left a pontoon boat. No one really wanted it because it was in such bad condition. I know the engine runs because dad was planning on going fishing the day before, but it was raining.  He and I had talked about putting new carpet on it and maybe replacing the deck.  As you can see it really needed rebuilding.

The deck was pretty bad.  Fortunately the console was on a plywood square covering this hole.

Some of the carriage bolts holding the fence on I couldn't get off because the nut on the underside was so hard to get a wrench on, so I used a air grinder/cutoff wheel to cut a groove in the head so I could get a screw driver on it. Once I got the fence off, I used a circular saw to cut away the plywood between stringers.

there were places that literally just fell apart.

Using a reciprocating saw i cut out the remaining wood and to cut off the screws flush with the stringer.

testing the polisher on the log and trim.

Couple of shots of the engine.  It's going to need some new decals.  Anyone know of a source

Hi Brian,  Yes!  I already have a new deluxe console from Pontoon Stuff and the reclining captains chair with slide mount.  I am redesigning the layout hopefully going toward a more modern design.  We have decided on Pontoon Stuffs deluxe furniture.  I looked at a lot of sites before deciding.  The carpet is called Captains Choice.  I get some photos of it up soon.

Decided to keep it in the family. We kept talking about taking my son out fishing on it but didn't get around to it.  Though my son never go to go out on it fishing with his Papaw Max, he'll get to enjoy the boat.

is the F9 what you used on the log so far?? Be sure to follow up with some F7 and Grade S in the end for the mirror shine, once done, coat it with Sharkhide

I just used some brown rouge and a buffing wheel so far.  There is heavy corrosion below water line. I was going to use F9 followed up by G6, etc..   but if you think I should follow up with F7, I will.Smile

My son wanted to help, so he's punching out old rivets.

Carpet installed along with console and captains chair. To install the console, I positioned it on the deck before putting down carpet.  I then drilled a hole with a bit the same size as the one on my hole saw. I then removed the console and cut the 4" hole in the deck.  Layed the carpet then cut carpet with razor knife about 1" bigger.  I then screwed a rubber boot down.  I cut the 4"hole in the console. I also predrilled 4 holes for mounting bolts in each corner.  When I positioned the console over the boot, I used a soldering iron to melt the carpet for the mounting bolts to prevent fraying. I then drilled the holes and mounted the console.  Did the same when drilling the holes for mounting the captains chair pedestal.

Closeup of the carpet.

I then covered the everything with some Tyvek.  Plastic sheeting just didn't work very well. For one thing it wasn't tough and it also doesn't breath.  Tyvek also reflects the heat, well some heat.

Yes it does, but since he has that in with pics and stuff, we can't move that so we'll just have to create a thread  there and give him credit for it. Brain, I'll let you take care of that tidbit Clap since you're doing a BANG UP job and I appreciate it. (for others, Brian got his first spammer and did a proper job of it) Thumbs Up

The soldering iron tip is solid.  I've been racking my brain trying to figure out how I'm going to get through the carpet without it wrapping around my drill bit.   Thanks! Thumbs Up
