Hey all,
Recently found a pontoon for sale that fit my budget, considering the current crazy market. I bought used from a dealership. I Asked all the big questions, if there was damage to the metal pontoons, and if it’s pressure tested. The dealer gave me the all clear. I bought this off of pictures and couldn’t make it to the physical location. I Got the boat delivered to my area and it was dark out. I Did a once over of the boat and looked all good. The guy told me there was a metal patch, (didn’t know this prior) it was welded on to the side of the pontoon tubes. I said what ever if it hold it’s fine. The next day I’m looking it over again, and there’s a patch of JB weld on the seem below the waterline(a repair). I call out the dealer and he says yes, the service centre forgot to mention that, and that they in fact, did not pressure test it. So I have a dealer that’s too busy to check his inventory, and The pontoon has clearly gone through *inappropriate language not permitted*. So I’m not sure what to do. On one hand the dealer is offering me my money back, or he will pay for welds. I’m wondering if these pontoons are repaired with aluminum welds, will it last the test of time? I plan to keep this for years to come and we don’t want any major issues down the road. Would welding and then pressure testing be ok, or am I better off trying to get my money back? The dealer has been mostly honest and it does appear that they are just crazy busy. I’m not blaming anyone, just a tough situation. If anyone has any info or recommendations I’m all ears. |
