Changed out the steering wheel, can't hardly tell that it's aftermarket. I failed to start striping the graphics off the fence though. It's been a rough week at work and I just wanted to relax.

On another note what is the general con census on using a "whales tail", "hydro wing" etc on the outboard. They industry theory is that it helps to get you on plane faster and to help push the bow down. My question is this with replacing to rear seating group and having nothing up front the 'toon is pretty aft heavy, would a whales tail help compensate for this til I get furniture on the front. Should I look into adding some buckets of water to the front to assist til I get the furniture up there? This is my first 'toon and I'm not sure how weight and balance plays into the equation.

I believe you mentioned that you're going to have less than 100HP on your boat... right?

If that's the case, you don't have to worry about the bow of the boat rising while trying to get on plane.

Not worried about it rising while getting on plane worried about it sitting to low in the stern until I get a front seating group. Shoot I really don't care if it planes out at all

Had an idea has anyone ever used the battery charger off their RV to charge their boat batteries.

There's plenty of power there to keep the boat charged up to it would just require a plug and a cord from the RV to the boat

Ok well life got in the way for a bit.

Put the 'toon on the river tonight first time out for me with this boat.

Well of course a maiden voyage usually turns up problems and sure enough I got a few.

Aside from a few minor electrical issues that are for the stereo and courtesy lights the only major issue is the engine seems to be loading up. It will run great for a bit then acts as though the thing floods out.

The primer bulb stays hard and the fuel is mixed 50:1.

Thinking about adding a little B12 to the fuel to maybe clean something out that I missed.

Anyone have any other suggestions.

Did you rebuild carbs? It is really fairly easy to do....could be something as simple as the float levels are set incorrectly....I might suggest going thru a lync and sync on the motor....but it is probaly in the carbs...look at your spark plugs to see if they all look the same!! and I am a big fan of seafoam, it really cleans out fuel system!!

Fatdaddy I didn't rebuild the carbs but went through them and cleaned them. Is the link and sync something I can do with it on the water. I can't get the boat back on the trailer until next week, I loaned my trailer to a friend. I'll check the plugs I had a good spark on all three cylinders, I'll see if one cylinder is not burning good.

Yes you can link and sync on water...check the floats to make sure the levels are set correctly...I had a similar problem one time, the cause was a small pin hole in one of the floats....hope this helps!! Its actually better to be on the water to set these motors up because it has a load/backpressure!!

Another short exploratory cruise tonight before church and the Johnson ran better but still had trouble. Runs great above 3000rpm but when dropped below it act like it's running out of fuel. If I push the key on activating the enricher aka choke it picks up. With the right rhythm on the enricher for about 30-45 seconds and she'll smooth out. Bring it above 3000 rom and then drop below again and same issue.

What am I missing.

Not that up on the link an sync procedure is it laid out here in the forum somewhere?

Well a little more time with carb and choke cleaner in the carbs and added some sea foam to the fuel and the performance issue seems to have gone away.

Had a little issue with the tilt and trim, blew an o-ring on what appears to be an emergency bleed off. Replaced that o-ring and gained better control over the trim and gained 5 mph per the iPhone GPS speedo app.

Now to address the last issue with the motor. I'm having an issue with the motor jumping out of reverse. I can put it in rev and turn the prop buy hand and it will jump out or if I put it in rev on the water it sits there and grinds like trying to put a standard shift car in gear without clutching it. Is this a lower unit issue? Forward works great.

I've talked with a couple of boat shops and done some googling and you tubing and sounds like I've got a broken clutch dog or rev gear. Thanks to that big auction website looks like the parts will cost me about $200.

Hopefully I'll be able to do the build in a day or so.

Any idea what woodruff key would fit my steering from an 88 sun tracker bass buggy with a classic 50 mercury on it?
