Hello All,
New to the forum but have been looking through all the pontoon rebuilding projects and I am amazed how well they have turned out! My brother just gave me his old pontoon for free!!! So I will be starting my own rebuild soon, currently working out getting a trailer for it so I can get it off the lake and bring it home. It has been sitting on the water for the last 5yrs and hasn't been run in all that time. The motor is cover in dirt dauber nest and needs some serious cleaning. He said it was running at the time but lost the key so it just sat there neglected and unused. But I have high hopes that I can get the motor cleaned up and get it running again. Plan is to work on motor first, then work on replacing carpet, seats, paneling, etc... Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have very little (or like no) experience in doing a project like this. I will add some pictures soon. Edited by Stewystew - 01/18/2020 at 4:36pm |

I actually read through your rebuil post a couple of days ago, it really motivated me to try this on my own! Appreciate you responding to my post and hope I can do half as good as you did.

Got to do a little work yesterday, pressure washed carpet! Carpet actually cleaned up pretty good. Going to use rug shampooer on it after it dries out a bit. Hoping to just use current carpet for this summer and just concentrate on motor, railings/panels & seats. Well decide after I see how the shampooing goes. Would be nice to use this summer and then do some major updates next winter. Getting excited about going out with family and friends.
I'll post updates as I go.... |

I rebuilt an 87. From the decking up. Power coated the rails. New furniture. New paneling. Swapped motors. New console. Made it high end.
Canβt believe your carpet cleaned up so good. |

Finally got some time to work on the Flotebote! Got the mercury running after having to tinker with the started for awhile. It wasn't engaging with fly wheel so took it off motor and cleaned the spindle real good and added a little grease, after the 3rd try it started to engage and hits everytime now!
Got new gas tank, fuel line and new connectors and she started right up! Quickly realized no water was coming out from pee hole so had to get water pump rebuild kit. Of course the one I got off of Amazon wasn't the correct one so had to take a trip to local marina and get one from there. Also grabbed a new propeller since I was dropping lower unit anyway. After watching a couple YouTube vids & reading some forum post, a friend and I tackled it! Got water pump kit installed and then went to but on the prop, O No! Had to get a new thrust washer, so another trip to marina (think they would have mentioned it would need one!) they search through a box and found one that would work - gave it to me for free!!! Put everything back together and started her up, had water peeing put and prop went forward, neutral & reverse with no issues! But then.... noticed had oil/gas mix pouring down the motor! Unfortunately the line was split at the connector and needs a new line. Just not sure how hard it will be to find one for an 88. But that's a project for another time..... |
