OK I,ve torn the toons apart and gotten alll the flotation out , now I want to fill them with closed cell foam, is this hard to do and is it rally waterproof, also i want to redeck with 1/8 aluminum and rhino lining, trying to make her as light as possible, my toon is only 16 ft. but she was so heavy she would sink, hasn,t been in the water in 4 yrs and flotation is still full of water with the plugs out. thanks STEVE

Do you HAVE to put foam back in. If the tubes are one complete section I guess it would be a good idea to put something back in so in case you spring a leak the boat doesn't sink. I know that a few guys around here have filled the pontoons with 2 liter plastic pepsi bottles with the caps on then closed up the pontoon again. It gives it enough boyancy to keep it from sinking. Would be better than the foam because they wouldn't get saturared with water, they would be lighter than foam and if you did spring a leak you could just drain it through the plug, weld up the leak and you are back on the water. It would be cheap but it would take alot of bottles so you better get a few jugs of rum and get at it. LOL

Maybe I missed something.  How did the inside get wet?  Did any water ever run out?  If there was a leak did it ever get fixed?
the foam is not supposed to make the tubes water tight or water proof.  They are to help the tube hold its shape and to provide floatation when a small leak develops so they can be brought to dry and fixed.  If it/they leaked then that should be the first effort.  My 2 cts

these toons are not sealed they are open to the atmospere under the deck, and over theyears they absorbed any moisture that we were around, there is a skin between the toons and the deck, but it is not watertight. so i thought why not fill the toons with dock material, if its pour in it will fill all the voids, and it wouldnt matter if it got wet it wouldnt absorb water ??? and yes there are plugs in the back of the toons, and have been some cracks but we fixed them. thsanks STEVE

I have never heard of a pontoon boats pontoons not being completly sealed water tight. In this case I don't know what to tell you. Do you have any pictures of them. I was under the impression that they were sealed  and had foam in them and over the years of use they had some leaks and the foam inside got saturated and you were just wanting to fix the leaks and replace the foam. I would think that the pour in foam would work as long as it is foam that won't obsorb water, but if it were me, I would try to seal the top of the pontoon to keep this from happening again.

hello, i have one of these pontoons made by misty harbor, its a 20', with a 150 johnson, and i have the same problem the pontoon sets low in the rear and it has foam inside also, i pulled the plugs and get about 3 gallons out of each side.  but it floats good and i get it up to 27 mph on the lake, just real heavy to tow...i would like to see some pics of your pontoons and what they look like on the inside cause i had been thinking about doing the same thing you wanted to do. thanks let me know what you have done on the rebuilding of the pontoon.....campingmanaz

sorry ya didnt get the pics to go thru would have liked to see what ya done, so when you took the deck off the pontoons had no cap on it right...top cap.....and how far forward was the foam in the toons starting from the back? and how thick was the foam?...i think that iam going to tackle this when winter comes here in az cause it doesnt get that cold here, i need to strip it down to the toons and get that foam out and i am going to replace it with the closed cell foam, and replace the deck also, i like my toon, its just heavy with that water logged foam in it.....if i can figure how to send pics i will try and put them up here.....thanks and if ya can get some pics up, sure appreciate it....thanks

I wonder how much it would cost to put a top on them and have them seal welded up....... You should call Watson propeller in Port Arthur and see. Just a idea.

Pour-in foam would be another option.  I worked with the stuff a couple of years ago and you can do some amazing things with it.... fairly easily:

Great tip on the pour in foam.  I've heard a little about it, but have no first hand knowledge.  Good to know we have some one with hands-on experience!
