Hello All

Been reading the forum for awhile and learning a great deal. So thought I'd share our project.
Frist We really are not sure what we have. I think it's a late 60's early 70's Sylvan. My reasoning behind that is my dad had a 16' Sylvan that looked just like this one, this is just longer. But even the nice folks at Smoker Craft can't tells us for sure. We do know it's 20' and will be a complete overhaul. We found this jewel at our campground last summer. Worked on it some last fall. Have spent this very long winter just repairing and rebuilding the railings.

This is how we found her. $250 was not so bad.

Loaded up ready to haul home. Thanks to a neighbor letting me barrow his trailer.

Well made it home next the tear down.

So in a couple of evening got her striped down.

This is all I got done to the haul before winter set in.
The end of summer and life got in the way.

Well the railing are in poor condition at best. We could of just bought a new playpen, but wanted to keep it as close to original as we can. Has a lot of time this winter to work on that.

before

after

Almost every joint needed repaired. Found this stuff online HTS-2000 If you use it right, it works great!!

Got the boy to help do some sanding.

Looking good. I've never seen fencing like that. Pretty cool.

That's why I wanted to reuse it. You don't see panels like that any more. But they are steel and badly pitted. So the paint is textured to help hide some of that.

Well I pulled the transom off this morning.

So I am wondering should I sister on longer 2" angle so it's attached at 3 cross members? Or is 2 ok? 1)I have no clue what this boat is/was rated at 2) I'm going to hang a 1962 40hp Johnson on this. The cross members are 24" on center.

Have not posted in a while. Just got busy with life so the pontoon got pushed to the bottom of the list. Well it shot back to the top. Here are the pictures of what we have been working on.

and last evening a friend came over to help me set the motor

Ha! You almost had me on the console. My first thought wasn't very complimentary when I saw the plywood frame, but the finished product looks awesome! Good job!

We now know it's a 1973 Sylvan Marine. Length 22' at least that's what the registration says. If it would not have been for a thunder storm last night, the railing would of been all back on.
